Seamounts
The Census of Marine Life on Seamounts group (CenSEAM) found that seamounts, previously thought to be hotspots species richness in the deep sea, do not uniformly show highers levels of species richness compared with non-seamount areas. Seamount communities were often found to be similar to nearby continental slopes, though abundances of life could be elevated. This has lead to a much better criteria for selecting areas for environmental protection. More
