The Census of Marine Life was a global network of researchers in more than 80 nations engaged in a 10-year scientific initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the oceans.  The world's first comprehensive census of the past, present, and future of life in the oceans was released in October 2010.

The database includes two global GIS-layers: one contains polylines that represent the maritime boundaries of the world countries, the other one is a polygon layer representing the Exclusive Economic Zone of countries. The database also contains digital information about treaties.



Use Example

Download a zipped shapefile-set and view in ArcGIS

                Unzip the file and the contained shapefile-sets can be opened with ArcGIS as is.  Sets of interest are World_EEZ_v2_*.*and World_Maritime_Boundaries_v2_*.*
